Redesigned Doji Pocket Logo

Hey! For awhile, I've been thinking about reworking the current Doji Pocket logo, which looked like this in case anyone forgot:
I've had this as the logo for what seems like a long time, but after giving it a good long look one day I decided it's time to hit the refresh button on this old thing. Why?
The typeface for "Doji Pocket" is pretty outdated and inconsistent in its line weight all over and the visual weight of the word bubble is a bit awkward; it's this one massive object balancing on top of this smaller object, which can be weird for its placement in certain situations.

Now the tough part for the new redesign was creating the new typeface for the Doji Pocket wording since I still wanted it to be round, fun, and bouncy. It ended up being a combination of that with my personal handwriting, which I feel l fall back too much on with a few logos I've created for my personal projects.

Without further ado, here's the new redesign!
Knowing myself, I know I'm probably gonna go back in and adjust some little things here and there, but overall this is the design I'll be using from here on out!

Class of 2422 Logo Redesign - Final Design

Hey hey hey! I finally completed the Class of 2422 character line-up! I'm totally ecstatic with the end results!

BUT!
Before I get into that story, we have to go into this story...

Part of the update for this project was to not only update the character line-up, but to also revamp/redo the logo for Class of 2422. Below is the previous design:
At the time of completing this, I was really proud of how this came out. Heck, I still think it looks kinda cool. However, as more time passed I started feeling "ehh" towards the design. I started to feel there was a bit too much going on in its design, such as the gradient in the "2422," the design on the blue rectangle, the white stars on the side of the words, and the typeface for the word "class."

Even during the process of this initial design, I really struggled with the typeface for "class" and "2422;" I ended up creating the design rather than using an already existing font, but then even I wasn't too big of a fan of how it came out.
One of my biggest issue was how "rectangular" the design is. Like it's so square! A boring shape! A boring silhouette!

I wanted the new updated design to be cleaner, simpler, and have a more interesting shape language. I'm sure you have already seen an earlier post where I posted different rough designs, right? I gives an idea of what direction I want to end up with.

Class of 2422 Logo Redesign

Since all I need to redraw for the Class of 2422 character line-up are Robert and Marilyn, I decided to start the process of redesigning the logo for the series. I was really happy with how it came out when I first completed it about two years ago, but looking at it now I think it's time for an update.

This time around, I want to really capture the Googie/atomic age look for the project's logo; below is a digital sketch page of a bunch of different design ideas I threw out from looking at a ton of reference pictures:
I'm really digging the sketches I have here so far. Part of the battle is to figure out the typography, which was something I struggled with the first time around. I'm hoping I won't have a tough time with it this time, but we'll have to wait and see; as of now, I want to figure out the actual look I want for the logo before diving into the typography of it all.

Also, this upcoming week I'll be starting school again so this blog might go into another period of silence (it doesn't help that I also have a dumb job), but as usual I'll strive to post any updates on my projects.

Propinquity Logo Adjustments

While I've been figuring out Ted's design and personality, I've done a side project of redoing "Propinquity's" logo. Here's the previous design:
I wanted the logo to look more like my handwriting for the redesign. I mean how it was before was already done in my handwriting, but I wanted it to look more organic and more to how I really write with pencil and paper. Here's the updated design!
Looks way more natural-looking, eh? I might do some small little adjustments here and there after posting this, but overall I think I've captured a more looser, natural look to my handwriting rather than the previous one.

The previous one is actually based off of a font I created with my own handwriting, but I've been looking to redo the font for the same reasons why I redid the Propinquity logo.

Collection of Icons and Logos

Hello! Oh boy, this place has really been dead, huh?
I'm currently on my spring break this week, so I'm definitely gonna take this time to refresh ('cuz I've been rotted from the heavy workload this semester) and pursue to develop my own projects.

Lately, I went back and redid some logos since they looked old/outdated/not-to-date with how the companies have their logos currently. I figured that I'd post a collection of logos and icons I've created in the past, as well as the ones I've recently recreated.
These are some icons and logos I've created; a lot of these are spoof logos/icons as part of some world-building for my personal projects, and some of these are logos for the projects themselves. I think you can guess which companies were spoofed; there's more I'll be doing later down the line.

Logo Spoof: Google

It's been forever, eh?

This semester is probably one of the busiest semesters I've ever had. Literally zero time to do my own recreational stuff.

Well, just one thing. It's not even anything spectacular.
It's a simple spoof logo of Google, going by the name of "Giggle." I imagine that the founder named his company "Giggle" because after many attempts and failures of refining and polishing his search engine algorithm, he giggled like a madman after it finally worked.

I made a 90's version of this logo, but that'll be for another time.

Illustration Class's Final Project - Theme Park Design

I'd like to take this post to go ahead and "declassify" materials from my final project in my Illustration class from the previous semester.

The final project was theme park design; we had to group up with other people and create our own ride concepts and work together to create a theme park with a certain theme in mind. In our case, our group was tasked to create a theme park based on Doctor Who.
I had a ton of fun on it since I'm already a fan of the show. Plus, this gave me a good excuse to go back in binge-watch the show.

Here's a few of the materials I created
Here's the logo I created for the park
I even came up with the name for the park, though I can't help but think that I heard the term "Whoniverse" somewhere. Maybe somewhere on tumblr? I can't remember.

Next is the poster I created for my ride concept
My ride, titled "Race to the Tardis," is heavily based on the Indiana Jones Adventure ride at Disneyland, which is one of my favorite rides. It takes the riders throughout the adventures of the 9th, 10th, and 11th Doctors with many run-ins with several enemies, primarily the Daleks. I was glad to hear that my instructor really enjoyed my ride concept a lot!

Now, I already posted all the materials on here onto my social media pages, but one thing I'll share on here that I couldn't really share with ease is the storyboard that I created for my ride. I'll post a Google Drive link for the storyboard below

Back to the TARDIS - Ride Storyboard

That's all I have to share regarding this project! At least my end of the group; my other group members have also created a ton of cool materials regarding this group assignment! I kinda enjoy doing collaborative work! I wish I did more of that for my own personal works.

Maybe I'll share my final assignment for my Advanced Storyboarding class later!

New Series! Mr. Ridiculous!

I recently went ahead and started the creation and development of a new series I've had sitting in the back of my mind for the last several years!

The idea for "Mr. Ridiculous" came from a dream I had a long time ago where I dreamt of a group of over-the-top villains broke into a small museum building that had a waaaaay bigger interior, and they pulled off really unnecessarily ludicrous maneuvers in order to steal the prized Blue Diamond. At the same time, another rival group of villains were also trying to steal the same thing. I also remember the city setting it took place in was also really surreal as well; it's actually pretty weird that I remember this dream in the first place!
One thing I don't remember from the dream, however are the characters; that leaves me with the task of creating and designing the characters for this idea from scratch which is fine by me!

Ultimately, the premise for "Mr. Ridiculous" is a group of outrageous villains led by a ridiculous leader (hence the name) on a quest to be the "most evilest" super villain group in the world! I won't be showing off any character sketches or concepts at this time, but I will show off the logo, which is a temporary design
Of course, once I have something ready to show off I definitely will, but currently I'm working on the character designs and such. Look forward to that!

Cul-De-Sac of the Decade - New Title/Logo

Some number of posts ago, I made a post talking about my upcoming future projects that are currently in the works. My mind's thinking about several different projects and ideas at once so it's been a bit difficult to focus on one thing at a time.

However, I have a small update on one of those projects. I've mentioned before that I'm currently doing a study on the 20th century (at this time, I'm currently in the 1970s); the study's purpose is to basically study the fashion of each decade in the century so I'll have a good foundation on how to start creating and designing the characters for the series.

The project, previously named "Cul-De-Sac of the Decade," is now officially named "20th Century Blvd!" Along with the new finalized title is a logo I've created to go along with it!
It's funny how I have a title and logo ready to go, but I have zero clue on what do to for the characters and plot. This is the exact opposite situation I had with Propinquity! Lovely!

Austin & Jennifer Reboot!

Welp, I've finally gone back and reworked everything on this series.

As I've mentioned several times before, when I created Austin & Jennifer I was totally hyped at the time about finally launching some sort of web comic of my own. So excited that the characters were created in a rush with no development so I ended up with these static characters with no life in them. Because of that, I became very uninterested in my own series and discontinued it altogether.

HOWEVER! I've recently regained an interest in the series! As you've seen already, I've created a neat logo to go along with its revival:
Since I'm planning some sort of reboot, I went back to the drawing board and completely redesigned the main two characters from the ground up! Take a look!
The sporty brother and artistic sister have undergone a massive makeover in both design and character, so now they have more depth in character than ever before. I'm still working on them both, but we're definitely way way way ahead than it was when I canned this project. I mean just look at the new look they have! Way better than before by a million!

I currently do want to bring back the web series, however I'm still unsure whether to continue where it left off or start all over again (both of these options will still keep it as an episodic series.) These are the first two options I have.
The third option, however, sees the series coming back, but instead of being episodic it will tell just one singular story. I'm currently working on this singular story just to see whether I want to fully commit to this option or not.

Whichever option I go with, I'll still have the original comic strips of the series online.
That's all I have for now!

Also, I finally formatted all the comic strips on the Austin & Jennifer comic page here on the blog into a horizontal state! Check 'em out! If I ever decide to delete these old comics from my Tapastic page, they'll always be on this page to revisit!

Possible Comeback?

I thought I'd never return back to this particular series.
I told myself I abandoned it because it was a lost cause.
But recently, I got bored and decided to revisit this old series.

And hot damn.
It's coming out really great this time around!
More details coming soon!

Class of 2422 Logo Reveal!

Alright alright alright! Today's the day!

Let me just say after about 5ish years of developing this series, I'm glad to finally have the proper logo for it! Here it is!
Amazing! I take full pride on it! I honestly couldn't stop looking at it after I finished created it. I impressed myself with the final product! It was a bit tough really capturing the 1950s feel.

WARE Homepage

In the Doji Pocket Cinematic Universe, there exists a tech company, an equivalent to Apple, called the WARE Corporation. If you look really closely, many electronic devices that my characters use has the WARE logo on it. You know, that lambda-looking thing:
Well in my intro to digital art class, we've been tasked to create a pamphlet and webpage on a business, whether it's real or fictional, and I thought "Hey, I have a fictitious company in mind!" I'm not sure how to share the pamphlet since it was created in Indesign, but I have the home page really to show!
The design was very much stolen- er, I mean, inspired by Apple's home page since WARE is a sort of parody of Apple in the first place. By next week, I'll posted an animated version of the page.

Upcoming Things and Stuff

Alright, here's what I've been doing/thinking about lately:
  • As of right now, I'm very close to completing upgrading all the character's clothing, so look forward to seeing the final, final designs, coloring, and such. Hopefully, I can dream that this is the last time that I'll make major costume changes.
  • I'm thinking about launching a new series on Tapastic, however it's just going to be reposts of those cartoon drawings I've posted. The only difference is that they'll all (or most of them) will be redrawn and nicely colored in Photoshop so they'll look nice and pretty rather than just pictures I took on my phone.
  • I'm tinkering around with the idea of redesigning the Austin and Jennifer characters and just completely redrawing all 15 strips so they'll look better and more presentable. Maybe, just maybe.
  • I've gone back and drawing some stuff in the black sketchbook, so hopefully I'll be able to collect more humorous cartoon drawings and comic strips for another huge wave of cartoon drawings.
That's about it for now.

Oh yeah, I'm trying to make a new animated video. It's kind of in a limbo since I'm kind of lazy to push forward, but it has been awhile since I made an animation.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the green color for the DP logo has been made lighter

Logo Tweak

I finally did a much needed tiny tweak to the Doji Pocket logo.

Recreated Logo

A few days ago, when I tried to transferred some stuff from my old flash drive, some stuff became corrupted, which includes the "Doji Pocket" logo files. Now that I think about it, I may have mentioned this already.
Well anyways, I've gone and just completed the recreating my logo! Here it is:

There are very slight changes that I wanted to make, but I was too lazy before. You won't notice them since they're slight. Duh.
