New Comic Book Announcement

I got exciting news to share!

I usually create a simple illustration for Halloween every year featuring some of my characters from the different story projects I got going on.

HOWEVER! This time, for this year, I decided to go with creating a comic! A whole 20 pages of comic starring Mandy and Sally up to spooky Halloween shenanigans!
And (I think) it came out amazing!

I pushed myself to create this comic from script to panels in about under a month to get it completed on time for it to be posted for the Halloween weekend. I am really happy to create something that looks like a very real comic book once everything was all put together!

The whole comic will be posted on my Instagram and Twitter account (@animatedslacker) in sections starting on October 27 through October 31st, with four pages being posted daily during that time interval.

Currently, I'll be posting small sneak peaks leading up to October 27 on both my @animatedslacker and @dojipocket accounts. Links to my socials are on the "Page of Links."
Of course, when the whole comic is fully posted, I'll post the whole comic here on the blog for everyone to read, all free!

Follow me on Instagram and Twitter @animatedslacker to follow the lead up to the comic!

Hiatus

Hey, so some lame occurrences occured.

The desktop I was using completely died out on me. In the weeks leading up to it, I've been enduring a steady rise of freezing and crashing until it reached the point where it froze/crashed (as usual), and then it went into a boot loop of no return.

So I'm out of a way to continue working on animations and digital art for the time being. I've been saving up to get myself a good, powerful laptop, but I haven't reached the point where I can comfortably purchase a new computer.

Until then, stuff will be on hold. I'm not sure for how long. I'll go back to finally working in my sketchbook and might be back with some interesting sketches and pages.

Just wanted to throw out an update on things recently. I don't like having too much silence around here, but I hope the work I've posted or will post makes up for it.

Update on Things

Hey! Feels like it's been awhile since my last post.

I've been pretty busy with other things during this month. Because of that, I am very behind on December's animation practice. As a matter of fact, I just started on it yesterday! I'll be sure to speed along process on that so I can start fresh on 2021's set of animation practices.

Speaking of 2021's animation practices, I'm going to start being more experimental with the topics and things I animate for this year, whether it's animating in a new style or animating a new cartoon style. The monthly practices started as way to get myself animating and giving myself frame mileage and personal deadlines to reach, and for 2020 I've mainly animated things that's very familiar to me. And I've gotten good at that!
Of course, there were some new things I've done here and there in 2020 and 2019, but I want to focus more on new and experimental things for 2021. I'll explain myself more in-depth about it when I post January's animation.

Also, I'll be removing a couple of sub-pages here on the blog. Most notably the "Cartoon Archives" page and the "Austin and Jennifer" pages. If you're interested in seeing those old drawings, you can go through them by exploring the "drawing" label.

List of topics and labels are in the right sidebar below.

...and with that, I'll be back with a new animation soon!

Last Post of 2019

Oh wow! We're already at the end! Crazy!

I know I wasn't as active on here as usual for previous years, but I think I definitely improved outside the work I've posted on here and on social media. Basically the school work.

I think I've reached a point where I'm confident enough to finally start putting a portfolio and applying at art jobs in the industry; those are my main goals for 2020.

I really enjoyed doing a monthly animation practice piece for the entire year. I'm almost done; just gotta finish and post up my December practice soon! I think I might continue it for 2020!
Maybe even add something else to that, like a comic strip a week? I haven't decided yet.

But hey! We'll see when the next year hits!

Summer Update

Whoa! It's been awhile since the last post!
Well for me it feels like it's been awhile.

So what's new? I left my job so I can fully concentrate on my art/career this summer break! I'm glad to fully veg out while doodling. I set myself some goals to do over the summer:

-Work on a new animated video (more on that in a future post)
-Write/draw/publish a comic book (again, more on that later)
-Finally put together a portfolio with the guidance of some of my teachers (in progress)
-Work on more drawings, stories, storyboards, portfolio pieces, getting exposure

I'll create another blog to use as my site for a portfolio; that will be done later this summer. I'll be sure to link that here once everything is ready. I'm hoping to at least start applying to art gigs soon after I get my portfolio thing up and running.

As of right now, my first project is doing turnarounds for my characters - all 16 of them! The entire cast of Propinquity, Austin & Jennifer, and Class of 2422. Soon after, I'll progress development on the Mr. Ridiculous story, my upcoming animation, and on the comic book project. Hopefully I can get through it all with my handy dandy Cintiq! (Not that having a Cintiq makes you a better artist or anything; it just makes my digital art process a lot easier)

I will be sure to update the blog on any new development and with any new drawings to share! Be sure to follow my personal Twitter/Instagram pages for a more up-to-date status on things at @animatedslacker!

Speaking of social media links, I've got to update that page soon.

Last Post of 2018

I feel pretty bad that this year was the least active year for the blog with the least amount of posts made. Welp, it is what it it. I ran out of 2018 to do anything about it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For next year, I don't want to make any promises because then I'll be disappointed if things don't turn out the way I hoped. I will, of course, have goals I'd want to complete but I'll keep those to myself. I know for sure I want put together an online portfolio, make/finish a comic book, and create animated videos.

Aww shoot, I said I wouldn't say what my goals and I just spilled the beans. Dang it.

See ya 2018! Bring on 2019!

Short Hiatus

A couple of days ago, my drawing tablet stopped working.

Definitely not because of me I swear ha ha nope I had nothing to do with it ha ha

Anyways, I just ordered another tablet (same exact type); I would have taken this opportunity to upgrade to a new tablet, but I'm a bit short on funds right now. I am planning on upgrading to a new tablet later in the year, whether it's an Intuos tablet or maybe a Cintiq. I'm personally hoping I can upgrade to 13HD Cintiq; my college has spoiled me with their Cintiq lab.

I have a ton of projects I really want to do/finish before my next semester starts up, which is at the end of this month. I'm really hoping that I can at least finish my animation video and the updated character line-up for Propinquity.

I'm also looking to go through every post on this blog and adding labels so it would be easier for me or future generations to go through specific posts.

It shouldn't be a long hiatus, but now I can take this opportunity to somewhat fix my sleep schedule. I really ought to.

Last Post of 2017

I kinda didn't want to have the last post for this year be the Christmas post, so I just want to do a bit of a small reflection for the year.

Besides 2012 (since I started blogging in December 2012), I don't like the fact that I wasn't as active as previous years, with the last few years having between either 90 to 100 posts throughout the year. I know I wasn't as active this year, but I still think we had another decent year on the blog.

I still posted a ton of artwork, whether it was old sketchbook pages, finished illustrations, character drawings, comics, etc. I'm kinda kicking myself for not posting much when I finished my semester, but I took these last couple of weeks just taking it easy.

I still have intentions to post some art I did this last semester, update my character line-ups, and finish that animation. I have a ton of other things in mind that I wanted to do, but I'll reveal those in due time.

For now, I want to wish you all a Happy New Year!
Come back at midnight on January 1st! I have a post scheduled when the clock strikes midnight tonight!

I guarantee I'll have more content posted in January!

Holiday Break!

Hello everyone! I finished the semester about a week ago!
Lately I've been winding down from school and whatnot; a friend of mine helped me upgrade my Adobe programs to CC 2018, and let me let ya that going from Animate 2015 to 2018 was a HUGE step up! Hopefully it should speed up the workflow for my current video!

I'll go back to posting artwork on the regular again, though since I was so busy with school I don't have a lot of personal artwork done, so I'm a bit limited in that area.

I will, however, start by posting some stuff I did this semester in my art classes...in the next post. I hate to be a tease like that, but I've got to go through my stuff and set up/arrange artwork and blog posts.

Also, I was thinking of going through all of my blog posts to set up labels so it would be easier to search up any old posts from years before for future generations.

See you guys in the next post!

Post-Thanksgivings Update

Hey! How y'all doin'?

Ugh, I hate inactivity on this blog! But I'm sure you guys know that since I always complain about it and seem to not put any effort into posting stuff, but hey, this always happens with school is in session. That's college for ya!

I still haven't gathered up any material to post yet, but I know I have something lying around on my flash drive. I'm currently redrawing the Propinquity line-up so it doesn't look like I drew it a year ago (I mean technically I did.) It's undergoing a huge overhaul at the moment and progress is slow. I'll be doing the same overhaul on the Class of 2422 line-up as well.

Hopefully when I have the time, I'll continue/finish up my latest animation! I was planning on completing three videos this year, but I haven't even completed one yet and it's almost December, sooooo...

I'm planning to post some material from the final projects I'm doing for my classes right now; I think you might enjoy 'em. I was able to get some nice classes for the Spring 2018 semester! I don't show it on here, but I'm always creating! Whether for fun or for a grade!

That's all I'll share for now. Still have a ton more in store that I want to work on/share!
See ya on the next post!

Doji Pocket's Alt Pages

Hey! So!
Since I have limited internet access to update the blog, I'll be using more of the Twitter, Instagram, and tumblr pages; I've got to bring those pages up to speed anyways.

In fact, I really ought to use those pages more often in general anyways since I'm out for the summer! I'll try to post some posts that are already waiting to go up here, but in the meantime go be sure to follow my mentioned social media pages!

In case you forgot, my Twitter/IG usernames are @dojipocket, and for tumblr search up "doji pocket" in the site's search bar. The links for all these pages are under the "Page of Links" section found on the right side of the blog!

End of the 20th Century Study

Well the last two months have been interesting, isn't it?
I don't remember saying so, but one of the reasons I started this study was to gain an understanding of what the cool kids wore throughout the last century and use that information to work on a project based around it.

Obviously, doing just a few pages isn't enough to fully capture the look of a certain decade, so I'll be continuing the study on my own outside of the blog until I have somethin' new to report or show off.

***Speaking of the 20th century, I'm currently extremely limited on internet access currently, so updates on the blog will be a bit scarce. Hopefully soon, that won't be the case because I'm planning on doing a ton of things during the summer break.

Short Doodle Series

I'm gonna be honest here, I have nothing else to post here.

It's not that I'm not drawing or anything; I'm busy with school stuff and I'm developing other stuff. One of these new things I'm working on is a project about the 20th century!

I'm currently doing a study on people/fashion of the century; I've posted a few pictures of those drawings on my personal social media, and I figured that to prevent this blog from dying, I've decided to post the 20th century study drawings here!

And of course, I'm gonna stretch it out by post each decade at a time.

Look out for them!

December Thoughts

We're less than a month away until 2017! Can you believe that?
I can't, considering that I can't believe that this year went by fast!

To be honest, this year wasn't the best year for me. Heck, it wasn't the best year in general. There was a ton of celebrity deaths, like holy wow Grim Reaper just chill bruh like dude seriously. Notable names include Prince, Gene Wilder, and Harambe.

Before I go off track, I'd like to say that I hate being busy with school work that takes away time for me to work on my own projects and such. Of course, I was vocal about these thoughts several times in the course of the blog, but it's true.
Currently, I have one week left until this semester is over and I have a lot to go through, so it's probably best that I should go back to working rather than writing a blog spot.

On that note, I'll try to post new stuff until then.

Doji Pocket on Instagram!

Hey guys! I'm on Instagram!
Just search up "Doji Pocket" and give me a follow! I currently don't have anything posted right now, but I'll be sure to keep it updated!

The Bird is the Word (Updated Links Page)

At the start of this year, I thought it'd be a good to separate my personal social media accounts (some of which that go by "Doji Pocket") and split them, so that I may have a definite difference between my personal accounts and my Doji Pocket accounts.

With that said, I've created a Twitter account for Doji Pocket!
Follow it here @dojipocket!

Also, I've created another tumblr blog that's more focused on my cartoons, drawings, animations, etc. Follow it here! dojipocketoons@tumblr. As for the first tumblr blog, I'm gonna make it more personalized for myself and give the "dojipocket" name to the tumblr blog linked above.
Edit 1: The "dojipocketoons" link doesn't work anymore. Try this link now.

Hopefully with this kind of separation, I'll be able to run my own personal social media more freely and at the same run the Doji Pocket accounts strictly for my cartoons, drawings, etc. only, so it wouldn't be mixed with all of my other nonsensical interests.

I'll try to update the Page of Links with these links and arrange them accordingly within the next few days. The links to my personal social media accounts will no longer be in the page anymore, but you can still find them through the Doji Pocket pages if you just look hard enough.

Edit 2: The Page of Links has now been updated with all current links to my Doji Pocket social media! Now it has 200% more humor than ever before!
Expect some of the social media pages to be treated and updated differently since I tend to use some social media pages more than others.

Another Year in Review

Boy oh boy, what a year.

I like to think that the year started off extremely well since from December 2014 to about August 2015 was this huge wave of posting some of my favorite cartoon drawings and comic strips that I've selected to show off on the blog. Think about it: from December 2014 to August 2015! That's an impressive amount drawings posted! Not daily through those days, but nonetheless my supply of drawings I wanted to share is a lot.
Well, 83 drawings is a lot, you know. Here the link to the cartoon drawings archive if you want to go through all of 'em again.
***EDIT: It was actually 44 drawings that were posted from Dec. 2014 to Aug. 2015.

Hmm...what else...
Welp, I joined Charahub (which I will eventually update once the character designs are done!), and this year saw the beginning and the end of that one web comic I tried to do, Austin and Jennifer.
Oh yeah, I recreated my Doji Pocket logo due to an error in a data transfer that almost lost everything in my old USB drive. Thank God my cartoon and animation files survived that!

Also, I've made huge steps forward in developing my skills as an artist thanks to the classes and teachers that have pushed me and guided me to become a better artist. A lot of that progress hasn't really been shown here at all, so next year (like hopefully in January) I'll try to go ahead and post some artwork and pieces I've done for my art classes.

I guess that about does it for this year.
Thank you for keeping up with me this year (if anyone was ;-;) and I hope you'll continue doing so into the next year!

See ya in 2016!

What's a Art Amino?

Not too long ago, I joined a little place called "Art Amino." It's an app that's solely dedicated to the arts and users are able to post their own art works and such. I joined because I thought "Eh, I don't got much to lose." It's kind of like an Instagram sort of place, but only pictures of art works are posted.

It's a nice place; for now, I'm just using it casually and exploring this app's community .
You can only access it through the Art Amino app so if you have the app already, search me up! My username's, of course, Doji Pocket.

I'm not sure how long I'll be active since I'm just checking it out for now, so we'll see.

New Pen Tips!

Part of the reason I haven't done anything digitally (besides school) is that the tip of my current pen has been scratched down to a weird slope that makes drawing very difficult that times.

Now that I've received new tips, drawing should be a bit more easier!
Do you see how worn down the white tip is? It's crazy.
Hopefully I'll be able to do a little more digital stuff with ease now.
Awww yissss
