No Halloween Art 2024

Important announcement from Mandy and Sally

No Halloween art this year unfortunately, but you can always go back and re-read the Halloween comic which is available to read and download on the blog! Just mosey on over to the "Neat Links" section in the top right sidebar and you'll find it!

The updated download now includes four additional bonus pages that were exclusive to the physical version of the comic! These pages have behind-the-scenes sketches and a look into how most of the pages were drawn up from roughs to final line art!

As Mandy said, I've been working on a new comic lately at a snail's pace, which means I didn't have time to get around to making some sort of Halloween art as I usually do every year.

In the meantime, go re-read that comic and hope you all have a Happy Halloween!

Merry Christmas 2023!

The year's almost over! But first, we must have our Christmas before the year ends!

I realized that the last time Mandy and Sally were exclusively featured for the Christmas artwork was back in 2017, and since the two headlined their own comic book earlier this year, I figured that it's best for the two to be the main leads for this Christmas's art!

Oh look! The demon Saccharo also wanted to join in on the holiday festivities!

Speaking of the comic book, I'll be offering "The Summoning on All Hallows' Eve" comic book as a free download again as my gift tom you guys for the holiday season! It'll be available for a limited time until January 1, 2024!

The big spooky day is back!

On top of doing a full 20 page Halloween comic, I had to squeeze in a simple Halloween illustration which, of course, ties into the comic.

For a limited time from October 31st through November 3rd, I'll be offering a full PDF download of my comic for free over on dojipocket.com! You can find the link to the page right about here!

After November 3rd, the comic will have its own dedicated page here on the blog site.

It will also still be viewable on my Instagram and Twitter pages at @animatedslacker as well.

New Comic Book Announcement

I got exciting news to share!

I usually create a simple illustration for Halloween every year featuring some of my characters from the different story projects I got going on.

HOWEVER! This time, for this year, I decided to go with creating a comic! A whole 20 pages of comic starring Mandy and Sally up to spooky Halloween shenanigans!

And (I think) it came out amazing!

I pushed myself to create this comic from script to panels in about under a month to get it completed on time for it to be posted for the Halloween weekend. I am really happy to create something that looks like a very real comic book once everything was all put together!

The whole comic will be posted on my Instagram and Twitter account (@animatedslacker) in sections starting on October 27 through October 31st, with four pages being posted daily during that time interval.

Currently, I'll be posting small sneak peaks leading up to October 27 on both my @animatedslacker and @dojipocket accounts. Links to my socials are on the "Page of Links."

Of course, when the whole comic is fully posted, I'll post the whole comic here on the blog for everyone to read, all free!

Updated Propinquity Character Line-Up 2

Hey hey! It's been awhile!

Back in January, I tweeted under the @dojipocket account that I ought to do a second redraw of the Propinquity character line-up. The last time I redrew the line-up was back in 2018. Since then, the little quirks, measurements, and landmarks in the designs, as well as the cartoon style itself have improved over the last four years for this set of characters, so I saw fit that they needed to be updated.

I completed the redraw in late January 2022, but didn't post it at the time since during the process, I redesigned Kevin's outfit and didn't like the end result at the time. It was only just now that I finally figured out a redesign I like for Kevin.

And here it is!

With the success of this redraw, I'm thinking that the Class of 2422 character line-up could use a similar update, although that particular line-up (and the Photoshop file itself) has a lot of moving parts to it. So we'll see!

AND speaking of character line-ups! I'm currently updating the Austin & Jennifer character line-up! It's not just a redraw; I'll be adding new characters to it as well! About time!

I've been recording the design process for these characters so I'll definitely be sure to post those one of these days.

Happy Halloween 2021!

Halloween is back, which means another round of Halloween art!

Something that I came to realize is that every time I use Sally and Mandy for the Halloween art, Sally is always on the left side and Mandy on the right. I don't know why that's been the case; it's just a coincidence.

And because Mandy is always on the right side of the drawing, we always see the left side of her face facing us, which is a side I hardly draw in general.

It's just a minor detail I wanted to point out.

Have a Daisy

Hey! As I'm sure you noticed, the monthly animations have been put on hold.

I'll get back to them once I get things in order around here.

Oh boy, that's a ton of catching up to do.

In the meantime, I drew up a neat drawing of Daisy! I'll also throw in the process of the drawing from beginning to end.

I had a bit of a breakthrough some time ago when it came to developing the personalities of certain side characters and Daisy was caught in the cross fire.

I'll admit, I've given some characters more development and attention than others and Daisy was just one of those characters that was left out...until recently.

I've been having a ton of fun figuring who Daisy really is and I wanted to draw up a nice drawing of her casually coasting on her skateboard while listening to music and browsing social media. I'm sure we'll see more Daisy around here once I get more free time.

To ring in some holiday cheer, I drew up some colorful Christmas art, as per usual!

I was barely about to finish this artwork just in time to post this for Christmas. Just barely!

May Animation Practice - Mandy's Makeover

What a month! Good thing I've got something to help take a load off from the craziness!

I have yet another month of animation practice to present here!

Best friends don't try to change each other, a lesson Sally was happy to learn:

After the weirdness of trying to adjust to Toonboom from April's animation, I had the original intention to post May's animation in a rough, unfinished-looking state.

Once completed however, I figured what I had was pretty good enough to give it a polish, so I spent another extra week with clean-up and coloring. And plus, with having that finished animation of Danny and Daisy back in January, I've been wanting to do another piece of TV-ready-looking kind of animation!

I also realized early on that this is my first time animating Sally; it's so great to finally give her proper life and movement!

All in all, I really like the end result of this one! I think I'm slowly getting the hang of using Toonboom.

January Animation Practice - Walk Jam

Initally, I was thinking of whether or not I should continue my monthly animation practice since the goal was to keep that up for just a year, but I figured that it's in my best interest to keep up my animation groove. Plus, animating is fun and it's what I like to do.

I'm really happy with how well this one came out! I really love it!

I couldn't stop rewatching it after its completion. It almost looks like TV animation quality to me! Plus, it's really nice to see my female characters animated and moving around for a change!

Happy Heart Day 2020

Once I realized my last Valentine's Day drawing was from 2018 and the one before that was 2016, I just knew I had to do one for 2020 to keep up with this pattern.

It's a quick one since it was started and finished today, but I think it's a good one

I wanted to feature Robert and Marilyn for this year's Valentine, but the last two ones focused on these two, so I wanted to keep up the pattern again.

Next Valentine's Day drawing coming in 2022.

Looks like Sally wants to share some sweets with her best friend Mandy. Too bad Mandy's not really interested in her offer or returning the favor.

Birthday 23!

Welp! Another year on this Earth, which means another piece of birthday artwork!

Of course I'm canon in my own worlds! Who do you think pays the electric bill?

I wanted to add more characters (both unknown, new, and current ones) but I didn't want to overcrowd the drawing. I think it'd be nice to be apart of my own worlds and interact with my own characters.

We're only half way into 2019 and I still have goals I want to accomplish before the year ends. Clip Studio finally went on sale and I recently got a trial for ToonBoom Harmony. I know for a fact that my next animation will be done with Clip Studio instead of Adobe Animate; I'm sure I've already expressed my love/hate relationship with that program before somewhere on this blog.

That, and a comic book. I really hope this year is the year things will start changing/moving in my favor, whether it's finally landing a job as an artist or having a productive year with finished products I can be proud of.

Propinquity Logo Adjustments

While I've been figuring out Ted's design and personality, I've done a side project of redoing "Propinquity's" logo. Here's the previous design:

I wanted the logo to look more like my handwriting for the redesign. I mean how it was before was already done in my handwriting, but I wanted it to look more organic and more to how I really write with pencil and paper. Here's the updated design!

Looks way more natural-looking, eh? I might do some small little adjustments here and there after posting this, but overall I think I've captured a more looser, natural look to my handwriting rather than the previous one.

The previous one is actually based off of a font I created with my own handwriting, but I've been looking to redo the font for the same reasons why I redid the Propinquity logo.

Hello Again 2019!

It's already January 3rd, 2019 and I've managed to start off the year right by buying myself brand new Wacom Cintiq Pro 24! It is totally amazing! It is the biggest purchase I've ever made and it's worth it! Honestly, it feels like a dream!

The first thing I did with it was finish off that New Year 2019 drawing I posted a couple days ago to ring in the new year. Here it is in its completed state!

It's nice to see the Mr. Ridiculous project join alongside the Propinquity and Class of 2422 story projects! We'll definitely see more of Mr. Ridiculous and his crew this year! I hope that by next year, I'll show off other story projects that I've been working on behind the scene!

Inktober 2018 - Flowing & Cruel

A lot of girls are big chatterboxes, but you'd agree with me when I say that Sally is the Queen of the Chatterboxes. Words just endlessly flow out of her!

The drawing for the "cruel" topic is the very first drawing for a story concept I've been toying around with lately

It's in its early stages, but the idea for the villain is someone who've lost all sense of their humanity and are solely driven by the pursuit of, well, I can't say; mainly because I'm still trying to figure that out.

Pretty weird juxtaposition for these two themes/drawings, eh?
